The Arab traders together with the camels also brought Baobab tree and planted in the hot sandy lands of Mannar. Baobab tree which is native to Africa was brought in for the sole purpose of feeding Arabian camels. It is estimated that this tree in Mannar is more than 750 years. The height is 7.5 meters and circumference is 19.51 meters. From Mannar Bus stand travel via Pallimunai road about one KM to reach the Boabab tree at Pallimunai. It is in the Mannar Town DS Division.
